Why Does My Ductless Mini-Split in Ladson, SC Leak Water?
Ductless mini-splits are a popular choice for air conditioning and heating in Ladson, SC and around the rest of the country. They are efficient and work well. But sometimes, you might find a puddle of water underneath your indoor unit. Consider some reasons why your ductless mini-split might be leaking water.
Clogged Drain Line
The most common reason for a leak is a clogged drain line. Your ductless mini-split collects condensation as it cools the air, and this condensation needs to drain away through a small pipe. However, if the pipe has a clog, the water can back up and leak out of the unit.
Full Drain Pan
The drain line leads to a drain pan that is inside the mini-split unit. If the drain line has a clog, or the drain pan is full, the water will overflow and leak out.
Dirty Air Filter
A dirty air filter can also contribute to a leak. It can restrict airflow and make the evaporator coil colder than usual. This can cause excessive condensation to form on the coil and exceed the capacity of the drain pan, which will lead to leaks.
Low Refrigerant Levels
In rare cases, low refrigerant levels can cause your mini-split to leak. Refrigerant absorbs heat from the air, and low levels make the coil colder than usual. This can result in excessive condensation and leaks.
Cracked or Damaged Condensate Line
In some cases, a physical crack or damage to the condensate line itself can cause the leak. This can happen due to accidental impact or wear and tear over time. A cracked line allows water to escape the intended drainage path and leak out of your mini-split unit.
